Darline Burton

Darline Ellen McNulty Burton, 84, died Sunday, February 18, 2007 at Johnston-Willis Hospital with her husband, all of her children, and other loving family members at her bedside. Her death followed a sudden and unexpected illness. She was born March 17, 1922 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to the late Martin Leroy McNulty and Elizabeth King McNulty. Darline and her family moved to Petersburg, VA in 1964. She was founder and director of Brickwood Nursery School in Petersburg, VA which educated students for 35 years. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, COL Arthur Maurice Burton, USAF (Retired); children, Elizabeth Holmes and Joyce (William) Jelinek of Denver, Colorado, James (Linda) Burton of Colonial Heights, Deborah (Ronald) Linhorst, Arthur (Carolyn) Burton, Mary (Brian) Lavin, and the late Gregory (Susan) Burton all of Louisville, Kentucky, Bridget (Nathaniel) Cuthbert of Petersburg, and Michael (Lisa) Burton of Hickory, North Carolina; 39 grandchildren, Christine Jelinek, Justin Jelinek, Maria Jelinek, Erin (Daniel) Howard, Amy (Todd) Fisher, James (Sarah) Burton, Tamara (Jon) Burkhart, Adam Burton, Stephanie Burton, Bernadette (Christian) Mitchell, Veronica Linhorst, Zachary Linhorst, Theresa Lavin, Matthew Lavin, Natalie (Colin) Underhill, Bridget Lavin, Meredith Lavin, Margaret Lavin, Audrey Lavin, Nicholas Lavin, Olivia Lavin, Andrew Lavin, Alison Burton, Molly Burton, Arthur Burton, III, Samuel Burton, Timothy Burton, Nathaniel Cuthbert, Jr., Margaret Cuthbert, Andrew Cuthbert, Samuel Cuthbert, Catherine Burton, Christopher Burton, Jonathan Burton, Joseph Burton, Colin Burton, Alyssa Burton, Kirsten Burton, and Spencer Burton,; and 7 great-grandchildren, Christian Mitchell, Jr., Georgia Mitchell, William Mitchell, Anna Claire Burton, Abigail Burton, Aiden Fisher and Nolin Underhill. Darline was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an inspiration to many, loved by all and will be dearly missed.
A Christian Wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 22, at St Josephâ??s Catholic Church, Petersburg, Virginia, with a visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Father Robert M. Spencer at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 23 at the Church. Interment will follow at St. Josephâ??s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Josephâ??s Catholic Church, P.
