Atkinson, David Bruce, age 63, of Petersburg, died February 15, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard L. Atkinson and H. Ruth Atkinson, and a daughter, Meagan Atkinson. He is survived by his wife, Aurora Atkinson; three daughters, Daphne Atkinson of Colonial Heights, Erin Atkinson-Logan of Chester, and Amanda Atkinson of Chester; a brother, Richard Atkinson of Mechanicsville; and seven grandchildren. Mr. Atkinson was born in Petersburg on December 16, 1947 and lived there for most of his life. He was a member of Second Baptist Church for many years and worked at Brown and Williamson in his youth. He also worked at the Richmond Times Dispatch for many years before retiring due to disability. He was a gentle and caring man who thought of the poor and needy all of his life, and provided a street ministry for many years. The family would like to extend special thanks to the caregivers at the McGuire Veterans Hospital who cared for him during the last years of his life and helped relieve his suffering during his lengthy illness. His family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, February 18, 2011 at the J.T. Morriss Funeral Home in Petersburg. A funeral service will be held at the graveside at Southlawn Memorial Park at 2:30 pm on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Kidney Foundation, 1742 E.
