David Lowell Davidson

October 27, 1936 — December 8, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David L. Davidson recently of Chesterfield, VA, on December 8, 2023. He is survived by his daughter, son in law, and grandchildren, Christen, Todd, Maggie, Emma and James Miller, and preceded in death by his wife and son, Diana Fishback Davidson and Brett Davidson.

David was born in Indiana on October 27, 1936 to George and Ruth Davidson. During his childhood he spent time in Indiana and Virginia. His family eventually settled in Houston, Texas. This is where he met his wife of almost 60 years and where his two children were born.

David was a true renaissance man. He was a cowboy as a young man, eventually worked in sales and marketing in the oil industry and had a keen interest in the stock market. He wanted an education and eventually received a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Houston then an MA in sculpting from the University of Texas.

He and his family moved from Houston to the pine woods of Waller County, where he and Diana raised their kids, instilling in them a deep love of nature, art and history. David worked for a time at Prairie View A&M as an art teacher eventually becoming a woodworker, general contractor, architect and builder.

He loved camping, fishing, visiting art museums, historic sites, hiking and especially canoeing in the cedar strip canoe he built. His artwork in the form of pottery, sculptures, woodworking, and architectural pieces can be found throughout the world in public and private spaces. He left a beautiful legacy behind in his generosity to all he met and in his beloved grandchildren.

David will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
