David Lee Lanier, 67, a resident of Wakefield, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009 in Norfolk VA, after a short illness. Born June 29, 1941 in Washington DC, he was the son of the late Oâ??Kelley Abraham Lanier and Katherine Louise Zimmerman Lanier. He was predeceased by his son, David Oâ??Kelly Lanier. David was a proficient and skilled carpenter and a retired farmer. He was the proud owner of Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in Wakefield and a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church, Lanier Hunt Club, and Wakefield Sportsmenâ??s Club.
Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife of 48 years, Almeda Slade Lanier; daughter, Marjorie Louise Gay and her husband Reginald; son, Richard Lee Lanier and his wife Tammy; two brothers, Albert Lanier and Robin Lanier and his wife Christine; sister Louise Garris and her husband Winks, all of Wakefield; and a sister, Julie Cross and her husband Bubba of Como NC. David was a devoted husband, loving father, and was affectionately known as â??Dadoâ? to the many children who passed through his home over the years as part of his wife Almedaâ??s day care center. He is also survived by his two special â??girls,â? Chrystal Curl Rogers and Brandee Curl Davenport.
The family will receive friends at the Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Tuesday evening, May 26, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jim Kerr. A sunset interment service will be held at 7:45 p.m. in Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to your local rescue squad. Purviance Chapel, J.T.
