David Emmons Newkirk, 85, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 10, 2025. David was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He graduated in 1957 from Hopewell High School and was 4-year veteran of the United States Army. In 1999, he retired from Firestone Synthetic Fibers, Bridgestone, and Allied Signal with 40 years of employment.
He was a simple man, known for his hard work and dedication to providing for his family. Foremost, he was a man of God who lived his faith every day. Though quiet, he had a quick wit and was always ready to help others. David loved sitting in the sunshine, vegetable gardening, and woodworking,
He was married to his beloved wife, Kaye, for 56 years. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters. He adored his three grandchildren, Regan, Erin, and Sam. David was preceded in death by his parents, Julius Emmons Newkirk and Russel Briley Andrews Newkirk. He is survived by his wife, Kaye Sanders Newkirk; daughters, Sarah Newkirk Mitchell (Bruce) and Rebecca Newkirk Heath (Bill); grandchildren, Regan Hopkins (Clay), Erin Heath, and Sam Mitchell; and his brother, Julius Wayne Newkirk. David is also survived by his extended family, including his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
David's legacy of faith, hard work, and love for his family will be cherished by all who knew him.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11am, at Calvary Baptist Church, with the visitation being held one-hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crater Community Hospice at Crater Community Hospice - Celebrating Life Every Day.
