David Lee Newton, 84, of Summerville, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Raised in Chesterfield County, David is the son of the late James Stuart and Josephine Swango Newton. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra K. Hatfield, of Bloomington, Indiana; his first wife, Virginia Lee DeWoolfson; and his wife of 20 years, Rosalinda G. Newton.
David graduated from Thomas Dale High School in 1957 and continued on to play football for Chowan College in North Carolina. He served in the U.S. Army for two years after joining at the age of 19. At the age of 55, David was able to retire from his position as the Chief of Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office in 1994.
David was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather who adored spending time with his grandchildren. He also was incredibly devoted to supporting Native American Heritage and Education. David also loved playing sports, fishing, snorkeling, listening to old time Rock'n'Roll and Country music, dancing, and animals of all kinds.
David Lee Newton is survived by his children, Lisa Sembria (Erwin), of Woodbridge, Virginia, Frankie Newton (Elda), of Camarillo, California, and Rosemarie Hashley (Chad), of Summerville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Shaina J. and Kyle B. Sembria, Zachary T., Frankie I. Jr., and Eleyna D. Newton, and Roselynn K., James L., and Johanna M. Hashley; brother, Donald S. Newton (Dot), of Richmond, Virginia; sister, Jo Anne Newton, of Colonial Heights, Virginia; along with other extended family.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at 11am, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Visitation will take place one-hour prior at 10am, at the chapel.
