David Rudolf Pittman, 57, of Chesterfield County, died Thursday, April 12, 2007. Born in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late David James Pittman and Christine Unfug Webster. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era specializing in communications. Following his military service, he spent the remainder of his life writing for various area newspapers, including, the Progress Index and Dinwiddie Monitor. He spent many years covering local high school and college sports. His journalism and photography, during that time, earned him several awards. Mr. Pittman is survived by his daughter, Dr. Kimberly Cole and husband, Shawn Hemsley of Arkansas; son, Walter Bryan Pittman and fiancée, Amanda Clay of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Serena Gail Pittman and Ava Rose Hemsley; brother, Carl Pittman; nieces, Tracy and Melanie; and his close friend and caregiver, Margaret Turner. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM Monday, April 16, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:30 PM.
