David D. Winfield, Jr., 84 of Punta Gorda, Florida died November 25, 2004, after a brief illness. He was born February 16, 1920 in Petersburg, Virginia, and retired to Florida 18 years ago. He served in WWII in the U.S. Army Air Force Training Command in Miami and Kingman, Arizona and the 5th Air Force in the Phillipines, where he earned the Bronze star. After WWII he continued service in the USAF Reserve retiring in 1970 as a Chief Master Sergeant (E9) at Byrd Field, Richmond, Virginia. He later retired from the Federal Civil Service after 35 years with the U.S.Army Quartermaster Development Command, and the Corps of Engineers at Fort Lee, Virginia. He was a founding member of the A. P. Hill Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and an active member in the North-South Skirmish Assoc. for many years. He was a member of the VFW, the Eagles and the NRA. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Petersburg, Va. He is survived by his son David III of Singapore and grandson David IV of California. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 6, 2004 at 11:00 a.m., at the Graveside in the Old Blandford Cemetery.
