David Winkler, 82, of Hopewell, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Opal Winkler; his brother, William Winkler; and his sister, Jean Anne Hudder. David served honorably for several years in the United States Army Signal Corps before entering the workforce. He was a millwright by trade and retired after 37 years of service with Firestone. David attended Broadway Baptist Church in Hopewell, where he was a faithful member for 48 years. Additionally, in his younger years he enjoyed music and was a member of the Charleston, WV Symphony, where he played the drums. David was also an active member of the Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War. David will be missed and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Virginia Winkler; sons, David S. Winkler, Daniel C. Winkler (Patricia), and James F. Winkler (Kristie); grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Winkler; sister, Jane Kimble; and extended family members and friends. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at J.T. Morriss & Son - Hopewell Chapel, 820 W. Broadway Avenue from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, where a funeral service will take place in the chapel at 2:00 PM.
