Dawn Michelle Angevine

July 26, 1955 — September 16, 2012

Dawn Michelle (Huddleston) Angevine passed away peacefully on September 16, 2012. She courageously fought the ravages and complications resulting from over 40 years of Diabetes. She was born on July 26, 1955 to Pleasant Jim Huddleston and Sara Fae Evans in Elk City Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Colonel (Ret) John R. Angevine and their daughter Megan Elizabeth Angevine, her son-in-law Keith Shovlin, and Granddaughter Michelle Ellen Angevine Shovlin. Dawn’s sister, Twyla Huddleston of Eufala, OK, nephew Christopher Huddleston of Salt Lake City, Aunt Peggy Johnson of Oklahoma City, and her cousin Janet Lynn Beaver of Kingsland, TX also survive. Dawn was a big sister to Janet and will be greatly missed. Both Megan and Janet were present at the end of Dawn’s life and provided great comfort.

Dawn will be greatly missed by her in-laws LTC (Ret) Robert C. and Mary Angevine of Chester VA who loved her as a daughter and helped her on countless occasions and in so many ways over the years. Her brother-in-law, Charles L. Angevine and his wife Judi of Laramie, WY and sister-in-law Margo E. Angevine and husband Miles of Titusville, NJ were all very close and provided assistance many times.

Dawn will be greatly missed by those whose lives intersected. Many friends became family no matter the miles or years that separated them. In particular, Marti Campbell of Northboro, MA helped to raise Dawn and served as an inspiration and loving friend to her. Lorna King and the late Helen Leary were close and treasured friends as well as neighbors Lori Gentry, Esther Lee, and Faye Early.

Dawn was most proud of their beautiful daughter Megan and shouldered much of the child raising responsibilities while John was away with the Army. She was very proud of Megan’s many accomplishments. Dawn provided a supportive ear when it seemed the goal was unattainable and encouraged her to follow her heart, pushing through the fear of the unknown. Dawn guided her through a Master’s Degree, a loving marriage, and the beginnings of motherhood. Dawn was present for the birth of their first Granddaughter, Michelle, and was looking forward to the birth of a second grandchild in March 2013. During Michelle’s first 18 months, Dawn spent as much time with her as possible and treasured every moment.

Dawn and John began dating in high school and graduated from Lawrence High School in Falmouth, MA in 1973. Dawn completed her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene at Westbrook College, Portland, ME in 1975 and practiced for many years in Massachusetts, Texas, Germany, and Virginia. Dawn grew up as an Army brat and continued her travels as she and John served 28 years together in the Army. During that time she packed up their belongings and created their home anew 17 times. She supported many Family Support Groups over the years and took great joy and pride in helping the soldiers and their families at the many posts, camps, and stations in which they served. On John’s retirement in 2005, Dawn was recognized for her service with the Commander’s Award for Public Service and the Association of Quartermasters’ Catherine Greene Award.

She loved to travel with her family and friends, be it weekend excursions or trips an ocean away. Enjoying other cultures through their cuisine, history, and material culture. She was selective of the physical reminders she brought back, but they almost always carried the symbol of the strawberry. A fruit that inspired her decorations and appetites since she was a young girl.

Dawn deeply loved her many pets over the years and will be longed for by Emma and Sam. She strongly believed in the compassionate care of animals and in particular her beloved Cocker Spaniels. She was a long time member of the OBG Cocker Rescue group in Northern Virginia. She adopted and fostered many older pets that had been abandoned and insured they had a loving home for the remainder of lives. She asked that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made in her remembrance to OBG Cocker Rescue, P.O. Box 361, Newington VA 22122.
