Dean Miller

Dean Miller, 71, of Colonial Heights, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013. Born in Buchanan, VA, he was the son of the late Joseph Clarence and Elizabeth Stuart Burgess Miller. After graduating from Petersburg High School, Dean worked for the FBI for a short period, and then AlliedSignal/ Honeywell, where he retired after 43 years of service. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserve. Dean was an active member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg. He served the church in numerous roles, including positions on the Board of Trustees and the Board of Deacons. Dean was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was a member of the Wachsmann Hunt Club and served as Chief Judge for the Virginia Deer Classic for many years. He spent many hours volunteering his time to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and as a Lieutenant with the Colonial Heights Police Auxiliary. He was also a member of the Colonial Heights Senior Golf League. Dean is survived by his wife, Gloria Butler Miller; sons, Scott Butler Miller and wife, Jeanne Marie of Fluvanna, VA, Ashley Dean Miller and wife, Abby of Chesterfield, and James Stuart Miller and wife, Lori of Mechanicsville; grandchildren, Nicholas Scott and wife, Ashley, Laura Cheree, Regan Lynn, Dean Satchwell, Reid Agee, Marshall Joseph, and Jake Buchanan; a sister-in-law, Shirley Marie Ashley; aunts, Margaret Carter and Nell Black. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 8th at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 13th at First Baptist Church, 235 W. Washington Street, Petersburg, VA, with Rev. Robert Dawson and Rev. Carl Weaver officiating.
