Deborah Bradshaw Carter, 75, of Chester, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on April 2, 2022. She was born on May 1, 1946 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Marion Eldridge Bradshaw and Cynthia Ann Lowery. Deborah was devoted to her family. She retired in 2009 after thirty-four years with Petersburg Public Schools, having taught at Peabody and Vernon Johns Middle Schools and Westview Elementary School. Previously, she taught for four years at Matoaca Elementary School in Chesterfield County and one year in New Jersey where she was a 1968 graduate of Rider College. She is survived by her husband, James Francis Carter, of Chester, Virginia; her sons, Christopher James Carter and Jonathan Allan Carter, of Chester, Virginia; her brother, James Bradshaw and wife Mary, of Sumter, South Carolina; sister, Elizabeth Bradshaw, of Chester, Virginia; three nieces and a nephew; and other in-laws. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Monday, April 11, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Grifton, North Carolina.
