Deborah Winger Duren

Deborah Winger Duren, 58, of Chesterfield, VA, died March 18, 2019 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was the daughter of the late Sandra Kay and James Edward Winger. As a Registered Nurse of 38 years, none would argue that she found her calling, though she herself might argue that her most favorite job was that of “Gram”. She was a fiercely devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all she knew.
She is survived by her husband of 12 years, Norm Duren; daughter, Sarah Wheeler and her husband, Mike of Bon Air; son, Jeff Poarch and his wife, Rachel of Midlothian; two grandchildren; all her beloved “fur-babies”, including her dogs, cats, grand-dogs and grand-kitty; and several other cherished family members. Friends were family, too, and she was especially thankful for the friendship and companionship of Margaret Metry; affectionally known as a “sister from another mother”.
She found the most joy being with her people, and through giving and helping others, but she had so many things and hobbies that she loved as well: shelling at Emerald Isle, “retail therapy”, reading and cooking/baking. Those who were so fortunate will always remember her, in part, for her famous apple butter.
She loved plants of all kinds and, accordingly, flowers would certainly not be discouraged. Donations to METAvivor and Colonial Heights Animal Shelter in her honor would be welcomed as well.
