Debra Matthews Edwards

Debra M. Edwards, 63 of Hopewell, VA passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2021. She is survived by her loving family, husband Douglas “P-nut” Edwards, children Justin (Christina) Matthews, Jennifer (Jason) Denny, Daniel “Trey” Matthews and Troy (Holly) Brown. Eight beautiful grandchildren, Rylee and Ciara Matthews, Ethan and Maddox Denny, Nadia Matthews, Allen, Josh and Alissa Brown. Mother-in-Law Patricia Bell, brother-in-law William Bell. and Keith Edwards (Nita). Also, her beloved dog “Rocker”. She was the first of seven children born to the late Harold “Dick” and Flora Powers. She is preceded in death by her youngest brother Edward Powers and survived by her other siblings, Harold “Bubba” Powers Jr., Brenda Barbour, Janet (Ray) Martin, Mari “Renee” Powers (Mike Woodward) and Barbara Powers. As well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. “Miss. Debbie” is what she was known to by most, as she spent 30+ years in the Hopewell school system as a Cafeteria Manager. She was devoted to making a difference, making sure everyone had a meal and also a friend. She loved each child like they were her own which was one of her greatest joys. Her heart was as big as the sky and she never met a stranger. Her infectious personality is something that we all cherished about her and will miss greatly. She was deeply loved by all who knew her and will never be forgotten. A funeral service will be held Monday February 8, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes.
