Delbert Ray Crookshanks

Delbert Ray "Crook" Crookshanks, 77, went to heaven on October 3, 2024, peacefully at home. He was born to the late Robert B. and Thelma M. Crookshanks on February 11, 1947, in Rupert, West Virginia. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Gene Crookshanks; and his sister, Nelda McClaskie. Delbert moved to Hopewell, VA, at age 19 to work at the Allied Chemical Plant. While there he was drafted into the U.S. Army for 2 years. In 1974, he started his own contractor business and took great interest in his work. After retirement he handed it down to his son, Gene, who had worked alongside his dad for many years. Delbert loved to fish and hunt for deer and rabbit with family and close friends. He loved riding his side by side with good friend, Al Turner, while hunting. He will be greatly missed by all. Delbert is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lois; his son, Robert Gene Crookshanks; his stepsons, Lee Barden and David Barden (Monica); his stepdaughter, Becky Robertson; his grandson, Joshua D. Crookshanks; his granddaughter, Mikayla M. Crookshanks; his step-grandchildren, Chris Barden (Eleanor), Eric Barden (Shannon), Derek Robertson, Dustie Robertson, and Drew Robertson (Abigail); his step-great-grandchildren, Eric A., Natalie, Naomi, Piper, Jason, Lawrence, Nevaeh, Aiden, and Juliet; one step-great-great-grandchild; his brother, Dale Crookshanks (Shirley); his brothers-in-law, James Jacobs (Ellen) and Bill McClaskie (Sue); and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 2 PM, at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with interment at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens to follow. The family will receive friends an hour prior.
