Deliah Peden Marable, Psalm 139:16 .. all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. And so as scripture says, on October 14, 2015, Deliah Stegall Peden Marable, 88, of Colonial Heights, completed her earthly life and now is in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Deliah was the daughter of the late Richard Ward Stegall and Rosa Cole Stegall. She was born in Warren County, NC in August of 1927, but lived in the Petersburg area for most of her life. She was twice a widow, by two loving husbands, John G. Peden in 1960 and James G. Marable in 2001. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Paula P. Modlin (Cecil); a son-in-law, Jerry Nutter (Janice); one brother, William H. Stegall; and two sisters, Martha S. Eunice and Gladys S. Grigg. Deliah retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company in 1985. She enjoyed bowling, reading, playing scrabble, and watching sports on TV. She made friends wherever she was. In her later years, she was blessed by time spent at Lucy Corr Adult Day Care and later at Dunlop House Assisted Living. She was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church. Her greatest gift was love for her family. Many came by the last two weeks of her life and she was surrounded daily by those who loved her most! She leaves behind two daughters and their husbands, Susan P. Wade (Joe) and Janice P. Woods (Buzz); her grandchildren, Greg Rasnake (Liza), Kevin Rasnake, Amy Nugent, Neil Wade (Christina) and Megan Synan (Chris); two step-grandsons, David Nutter and David Archer; great-grandchildren, Vivian and Ana Grace Rasnake and Dylan and Jeremy Archer; sister, Rachel Hayes (Linwood); and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Joyner officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery.
