Deloreess Holt Klonis

Deloreess Holt Klonis, 81, of Hopewell passed away on Friday, December 11, 2020. Born in Durham, North Carolina on September 20, 1939, she was the daughter of the late James McBride and Sarah Cates Holt, and was also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Nick Anthony Klonis. After graduating college, Deloreess worked as a teacher for a few years in Petersburg, Hopewell and Prince George before becoming a mother and raising her family. She worked alongside her husband in owning and operating Pinewood Grocery in Hopewell from the 1960s-1980s. They also ran Bobby’s Mini-Mart in Hopewell for many years. Deloreess loved going to their vacation home on Hatteras Island and found solace when fishing. She is survived by her two sons, Nick Anthony Klonis, Jr. and wife, Katherine, Mark Anthony Klonis; brother, James McBride Holt; sister, Alma Dunbar; and other extended family members and many friends. A private graveside service will be held in Appomattox Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Homes.
