Dennis Mervin Denmark

Dennis M. Denmark, 94, of Chester, VA passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 72 years, Antoinette “Toni” Denmark; daughter, Denise Denmark Burton and husband Floyd; grandsons, David Tyler Bland and wife Carmen; William Chase Bland and wife Tina; great grandson, Anderson Tyler Bland; and brother, Nathan Earl Denmark; numerous extended friends and family. Dennis was retired from Allied Chemical where he worked for over 20 years. He was also a proud veteran of World War II and Korea. Dennis served as a flight engineer in the China Burma India Theater and flew with the first B29 to bomb Japan in 1944. Following his combat tour he returned to Albuquerque, NM where he trained flight engineers on logistics for the Army Air Corps. Dennis became a pilot in 1949 and flew Air EVAC during the Korean War. During his time in Korea he transported wounded soldiers, mail and supplies for our troops in combat. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and one air medal from WWII with four stars. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W. Hundred Rd., Chester, VA 23831. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital.
