Derrick Smith

Derrick Vinson Smith, age 21, of Enon, VA, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008. He was born in Fresno, CA. Derrick was a loving husband and father, and worked with the Mazda remanufacturing plant as a head line technician. He was a decorated rider in AMA cross country, and a former state champion in the 250cc class. Derrick was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his loving wife, Erica Ellis; son, Cole Smith; parents, Vincent and Denise Smith, all of Enon; a sister, Jennifer Shepherd and husband Jeremy of Prince George, VA; a brother, Sean Smith of Enon; a nephew, Aidan Shepherd of Prince George; and numerous other family and friends. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Chesterfield chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. The family will receive friends for 1 hour following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions are made to the Cole Smith Scholarship Fund in care of J. T.
