Dona Parham Thompson

Dona Parham Thompson, 91, of Chester, VA passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Born in Chesterfield, VA she was the daughter of the late Robert Washington and Rosa Julia Alley Parham; and was also preceded in death by her son, Russ Allen Barfield; daughter, Deborah Rose Barfield; and two sisters, Pauline Clarke and Gaynelle Brown. Mrs. Thompson was a 1950 graduate of Thomas Dale High School and retired from Verizon in 1991 after many years of dedicated service. She was an active member of the D.A.V. Mrs. Thompson was a devout Christian, and served her church as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Choir. She was a social butterfly, and she and Skip loved to travel and roam North America in their RV gleaning new experiences. She enjoyed communing with nature, singing, dancing, hosting parties and winning games. Her favorite place to be was always by the ocean. Mrs. Thompson was guided by the light of God. She opened her heart, mind, and home to all who needed to be held in love. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Gaylord "Skip" Thompson; her children, Dan, Robert (Cindy), and Douglas; grandson Adam Barfield, granddaughter, Emily Sorensen; one great-granddaughter, Carli Reynolds; a great great-granddaughter, Renli Rose Zacharias, her 3 step-sons Kenny, Dean (Ferrol), and Leroy Thompson; and many other beloved family members and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at the funeral home.
