Donna Skerritt Smith

Donna Skerritt Smith, passed away on Friday, February 16. She was born to the late Edward J. Skerritt, Jr. and Marie Skerritt on June 28, 1955. Donna attended Petersburg High School, where she was a Golden Twirlett and a member of the Glee Club. She married John Wayne Smith on June 29, 1973. Family was Donna’s passion and delight. She and Wayne spent vacations with her mother and father, traveling all over the U.S., especially their annual trip to Disney World. She loved family gatherings at her in-laws, and was especially close to her mother-in-law, “Granny” (Mary Ann Smith), who kept the grandchildren while Donna worked. She enjoyed attending the activities her children and grandchildren were involved in, and could often be found at ballfields and school auditoriums cheering them on. Donna worked at Golden Living Center in Petersburg as Assistant Administrator until her retirement. Donna is survived by her husband, John Wayne Smith, and her three children: Ryan (Beth) Smith, Jessica (Travis) Rainey and Justin (Ashley) Smith. Her mother, Marie Skerritt also survives her, her two sisters, Brenda Heath and Susan (Dave) Angel. She leaves behind 8 grandchildren, Gracie, Lucas, Myles, Nolan, Jacob, Rylan, Jaxson, and Emily, and a special cousin, Bonnie Brown. Donna is preceded in death by her father, Edward J. Skerritt, Jr., her in-laws, John and Mary Ann Smith and her brother-in-law, Tommy Heath. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21 at the Ocran United Methodist Church in Sutherland. Reverend Larry House will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, February 20 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son. Burial will follow the funeral at Blandford Cemetery.
