Doris Holmes Bragg, 87, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013. She was born in Petersburg, VA, and the daughter of the late Clarence C. and Essie Cooley Holmes. Ms. Bragg was the widow of William Herbert “Freck” Bragg. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Shirley E. Lundie; sister, Helen Rowlett; brothers, John Scott Holmes and Willie Lee Holmes. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Dana Ethridge, David Ethridge (Cindy Ethridge), Helen Merritt (Robert Merritt, Jr.), and Annette Bailey (Wayne Bailey); five grandchildren, Sheila Cross, Robert Merritt, III., Micheal Merritt, William “Scott” Bailey, Tiffany Bailey, and Heather Mann; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Browder and Brendon Merritt, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, VA.
