Doris Almarode Mcgee

April 27, 1936 — January 30, 2024

Doris A. McGee, a joyful, easy-going, and loving person, joined the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. She survived by her children, Henry McGee III and Deborah McGee; her granddaughter, Rachael McGee (William Daniel); her great-granddaughter, Kylie McGee; her brother, Larry Almarode (Linda Almarode); her sister, Patricia Mitchem; her sister-in-law, Susie Almarode; and several nieces and nephews. Doris was born on April 27, 1936, to her mother, Susie Jane Almarode, and father, Oma Frazier Almarode.
Doris lived a very full life, filled with joy, laughter, adventures, and love. Out of every road she could have gone down, she always found her way back to God. She was a loyal, devoted member of Faith Baptist Church, in Prince George, for 28 years. Doris loved to write poetry in her free time and enjoyed writing about the U.S., religion, and her family. She wrote hundreds of poems but one in particular she would always tell the story of. She wrote a poem to former president, George Bush, when he was in office, and received a handwritten letter in return expressing his gratitude and appreciation. Not only could she write like there was no tomorrow, she was the best cook. Every holiday or family event Doris made spectacular dishes that could make your tastebuds dance. She could make the best chili, chocolate pie, and peanut butter sandwiches. She could make anybody love any dish. Doris could also tell stories like no other. She was the best storyteller and could make you feel like you were right there. She could sew like there was no tomorrow. She made clothes, bed spreads, quilts, curtains, and so much more. In her younger years, she also enjoyed traveling and antiquing. She visited many places such as Alaska, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, NYC, and her personal favorite Disney World. Needless to say Doris lived a very full and inspirational life. No matter what situation she was in, she always found the good in everything and everybody. Even in her final days, she made the most out of her situation. Anyone who was in her life was very lucky and should be inspired by her and the life she lived. May she rest in peace with the Lord. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
