Doris Leonard Pritchett, of Dinwiddie, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, at the Dunlop House. She is predeceased by her parents, William Maurice Leonard and Therman (Billie) Jordan Leonard, of Sutherland. Surviving Mrs. Pritchett is her husband, Irving Haddock Pritchett III; her sister, Linda Leonard Barker, of Sutherland; a brother-in-law, Lanford Pritchett, of Isle of Wight; and a sister-in-law, Alice Crain and her husband, Dave, of Hendersonville, NC. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces, of whom she was immensely proud. They include, William Leonard Barker and his wife, Kelsey, and their children, William Gresham Sutherland and Charlotte Eskridge, of Cotswold Village, Charlotte, NC, Chandler Lettin and her husband, Nick, and their children, Owynn and Sedona, of Portland, OR, Austin Pritchett, also of Portland, Drew Crichton and his wife, Meredyth, of Charleston, SC, and Scott Crichton, of Douglas, GA.
Doris was born in Petersburg on February 21, 1950, and lived her early life at Riverside Farm in Sutherland. She attended Dinwiddie High School, where she was a proud cheerleader, and graduated in 1968. She took her degree from Radford University in 1972, and subsequently began her teaching career. She had a passion for Dinwiddie High School, and worked to enrich the lives of her students, not only in the classroom, but through leading trips abroad, organizing and running the Miss Dinwiddie Pageant, and serving as one of the most committed fans to Dinwiddie Football throughout her life.
She loved traveling, and made around 50 trips across the pond throughout her lifetime. She particularly loved the United Kingdom and cultivated lifelong friendships during her travels there. In retirement she developed a love for Scottish Celtic music, and enjoyed traveling around the world with her friends to watch the band Albannach perform.
A memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
