Dorothy Louise Stewart Cates

Dorothy Louise Stewart Cates, 88, of Dinwiddie County, VA passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Born in Petersburg, VA she was the daughter of the late Reginald W. and Myrtle S. Stewart; and was also preceded in death by her husband, John E. Cates, Sr.; a son, Barry W. Cates; and a brother, Rolland W. Stewart. Mrs. Cates was retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco, and had also retired from Matoaca Baptist Church Day Care. She had been a long-time member of Matoaca Baptist Church. She loved to go to Myrtle Beach every year and laying by the pool at her house. She loved seeing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cates is survived by her children, John E. “Jay” Cates, Jr. and wife, Debbie and Rhonda Cates Belcher and husband, Mike; four grandchildren, Brian Taylor (Michelle), Tracy C. Brown, Michael Belcher and Chris Hall; seven great-grandchildren, Ronald B. Taylor, Zachary Taylor, Haleigh N. Brown, Matthew L. Brown, Alyssa Nichole, Lexi Belcher and Bailey Belcher; a brother, Carl W. Stewart and wife, Connie; many nieces and nephews; and a very special lady in her life, Christy Simmons. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
