Mrs. Dorothy S. Cornett, “Dolly” to those who knew her, age 83, a long time resident of Petersburg went peacefully and quietly home to be with her Lord at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News on March 26, 2004.
Born on Dec. 25, 1917 in Woodton, England, she was the only child of the late Harry Charles and Maude Runicles Smith.
In 1943, while working at a hospital in Norwich she met Herbert Cornett, who was stationed at Hardwick R. A. F base, later marrying and returned to his home in Petersburg where they enjoyed 60 years together.
She was a loving, caring, devoted wife and homemaker placing the needs of others above herself. Her neighbors and friends were the beneficiary of her delicious cakes and pies always willing to help out when there was a need, touching many lives.
She was a member of the Oakland Baptist Church.
We were blessed having the precious gift God bestowed upon us when He gave us our mother, grandmother, friend, neighbor and lifelong companion.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband Herbert Cornett, daughter Shirley Corrine Ing and husband Jim of Newport News, son, Larry Chester Cornett and his wife Annie of Stockholm, Sweden. She was the proud grandmother of Scott Ing of Fremont, CA, Shaun Ing of Chesapeake, James Ing of Newport News, Ivan Cornett, Anton Cornett, and Max Cornett all of Stockholm Sweden and special dear friend Ruby Vik.
