Ennis, Dorothy Strickland, 90, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2011. Dot was born November 10, 1920 on a tobacco farm in Four Oaks, N.C. She was the youngest child of the late Lela and Josiah Strickland. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 41 years, Dock Raymond Ennis, four sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Irving Moran; sister-in-law, Shirley M. Ennis; and many nieces and Nephews. Dot and Dock were married in 1940, and after the war years moved from North Carolina to Petersburg, VA, where they became life long residents. Dot was a loving wife and mother providing incredible care and guidance. She was a devoted friend with a caring heart and a warm smile. To know Dot was to love her. Dot was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg for 57 years, serving her church in various leadership roles, and particularly enjoying the children and flowers. Dot was active in the Petersburg Community and was secretary of the Petersburg Public Forum for many years. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, 103 S. Adams St. Petersburg, VA 23803, with a funeral service to follow at 11:30 A.M. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA.
