SSGT Douglas Ray Burruss, USAF (Ret), age 40, of Hopewell, passed away suddenly Sunday, November 7, 2004. A native of Petersburg, he was a son of Lucky D. Burruss, Sr. and Mary Brown Burruss of Petersburg. He was a twenty year veteran of the United States Air Force, including twelve years of service over seas. He served in Desert Storm and several other stations around the world including Germany, England, Turkey, Korea, and Kuwait. He was presently employed as a security guard with Allied Security and Central State Hospital. In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Grover Lee Stell, Jr. and wife Vivian of Prince George, Lucky D. Burruss, Jr. of Florida, and Jeffrey D. Burruss and fiancee, Ginger Ferguson of Blackstone; two nieces; five nephews; three great-nephews; an uncle of Dinwiddie County; an aunt of Charlotte, N. C.; and numerous cousins. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
