Douglas A. "Buddy" Rawlings Jr.

Douglas A. “Buddy” Rawlings, Jr., 84, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, December 17, 2015. Born in Hopewell, VA, he was the son of the late Douglas A. and Violet Renn Rawlings. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Rawlings, and his daughter, Kathleen H. Moore. Mr. Rawlings served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University and retired from the Virginia Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. He was a member of the Petersburg YMCA and POGO (Petersburg Old Geezers Organization). Mr. Rawlings is survived by his son-in-law, R. Francis Moore and wife, Billie; granddaughters, Magen M. Moore and Erika L. Empting; great-grandchildren, Byron P. Empting and Delainey L. Empting, all of Colonial Heights, and a number of cousins and dear friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Dunlop House for the excellent care they provided. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service.
