Douglas Wayne Rodeck, 82, of Chester, VA, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Rodeck and Lois Nichols Rodeck; and his loving wife of 33 years, Doris Rodeck. He is survived by his step-daughter, Elaine Howell and husband, Jim, and their son, Jimmy; step-son, Raymond Swineford and wife, Ellen, and their children, Kerith, Eden and Joshua; step-son, Robert Swineford and wife, Tina, and their children, Matthew, Sarah and Elizabeth. He was best known for his quick wit and spontaneous sense of humor, as well as his passion for collecting antiques, baseball cards and collectibles, and then some. Story telling was a talent he excelled at, whether written or oral. He loved to entertain those in his company with vivid stories from his past. Doug was the epitome of a true first-class gentleman, always treating others with kindness and respect. He enjoyed giving compliments to lift their spirit and put a smile on their face. He lived the "Golden Rule." After earning a degree in Business Education, he spent his early career as a beloved high school teacher. The students adored him. He made a difference in their lives. He later entered the corporate world and became the Manager of Facilities Accounting for Hercules Inc. at the corporate headquarters in Wilmington, DE. Years later he transferred to the Hopewell, VA, location and eventually met the love of his life, Doris. The two enjoyed 33 blissful years of marriage until Doris passed away in 2019. Their love was like a fairy tale that few ever get to experience. A graveside service will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, 2:00 p.m., at Sunset Memorial Park.
