Earl Ried Leighty, 59, of Dinwiddie, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. Earl was born in Nancy, France, and raised in Blackstone, Virginia, where he worked on the farm with his dad and brothers. He was the son of the late William Leighty and Helen Coon and stepfather, Gerald Coon. Earl was a loyal friend, husband, and most of all "Dad". Earl loved his family without end. Earl never met a stranger. Anywhere he went, his smile and demeanor would light up a room. Earl was always quick to lend a hand to anyone. He was a graduate of Nottoway High School. He attended Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Earl retired from Hauni Richmond, Inc after 30 years of service. Earl enjoyed spending time with family, watching football (The Dallas Cowboys), grilling on the weekends, going to the beach, and boat riding with friends on the lake. Earl would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He considered his friends as family. He is survived by his wife, Laura Ragsdale Leighty; daughter, Erica Leighty (Brandon); three grand fur babies, Zoey, Peanut, & Roo; and "bonus" daughter, Jordan Davis; brothers, Jeff Leighty (Glennis) and Bob Leighty (Georgia); sister-in-law, Diana Leighty; and niece, Peyton Leighty; stepsiblings, Andy Coon (Marsha), Bernadette Jones, Tommy Coon (Susan), and Teri Ruby (Greg); along with numerous nieces and nephews. Earl was truly a loving and kindhearted soul who will be missed by many. A celebration of life will held on Saturday, Febuary 10, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., at Adaline Acres, 11700 Hogans Alley, Chester, VA 23836.
