Earl Dee Mines, 71 of Hopewell died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at his residence. He was born in Bath County, VA. Mr. Mines was a retired Sgt. Major from the U. S. Army having served during the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Melvina Riley Mines. Mr. Mines is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gertrud Katherine Mines of Hopewell, two sons, Markus F. Mines and his wife Ann of Chester, Thomas G. Mines of Washington, DC, three daughters, Deborah M. Robertson and her husband Burley of Tulsa, OK, Brenda M. Jones of Chesapeake, Rebecca M. Hicks and her husband Michael of Richmond, three grandchildren, Thomas Jones, Jr., Brianna Hussey, Abigail Mines, three great grandchildren, a sister, Frances Rhea of Millboro, VA, and a brother, Paul Mines of Pulaski, VA, and a brother-in-law, Fritz Haas of Saal, Germany. He was a hard working, strong family man. Mr. Mines was very devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, November 16, 2007 from 7:00 to 8:00 PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service. A graveside service, with full military honors will be held Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 1:00 PM in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George.
