Edith James White, 83, widow of J. Franklin White and a resident of Waverly died Saturday Feb. 28, 2009 in Waverly. Born in Surry County on October 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late J. Hayden & Grace Lane James. She was a member of the Waverly Congregational Christian Church and had served as the Historian of the church until three years ago. She was a member of the General William Mahone Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Red Hat Social Society. She is survived by a sister, Thelma J Edwards, of Hopewell; a brother Joseph H. James, Jr., and his wife Laura of Raleigh NC; several nieces and nephews; and her devoted caregivers. She was predeceased by a brother H. Lane James of Dendron.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will follow in Waverly Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, the day of the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
