Edsel E. Fitzgerald, age 76, of Chester, VA, died on Monday, December 25, 2006. He was the husband of 52 years of the late Esther Grey Davis Fitzgerald. Mr. Fitzgerald was born in Montebello, Nelson County, VA, the son of the late Robert Fulton and Della Snead Fitzgerald. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He had been a faithful member of Chester Baptist Church since 1972. Edsel genuinely loved people, and it had been said that he never met a stranger. He spent most of his working career as a salesman and had a unique way with people. He was very family oriented and loved family gatherings. He loved music and was fond of both kinds, Country AND Western. He is survived by four children, Sharon Fitzgerald Massie of Lexington, VA, John Davis Fitzgerald and wife Rebecca of Hanover, VA, Ellen Fitzgerald Sapko and husband Joseph of Chester, and Susan Fitzgerald Oliver and husband Jason of Chester; seven grandchildren, Sarah and Nathaniel Massie, Taylor, Emily, and Madison Fitzgerald, Colin and Lauren Sapko; brother, Edgar F. Fitzgerald and wife Mary of Amherst, VA; sister, Helen Fitzgerald Bledsoe and husband James of Houston, TX; brother, Calvert S. Fitzgerald and wife Mary of Buena Vista, VA; brother, C. Wayne Fitzgerald and wife Martha of Lexington, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a beloved cat, â??Dukeâ?. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Joyce Fitzgerald, a son, Edsel Elroy Fitzgerald, Jr., and a brother, Curtis D. Fitzgerald. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 28th at 6 PM at Chester Baptist Church with a visitation to follow until 9 PM with Dr. Edward J. Stansfield officiating. Burial will be Friday, December 29th at 2 PM at Amherst Cemetery.
