EAKIN, JR., EDWARD McCOY, 68, of Prince George County, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2016, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by Edward McCoy Eakin, USN (Ret.) and Mary Christine Eakin, both of Waynesboro, Virginia. Ed is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Susan Thacker Eakin; his children, Edward McCoy Eakin, III and Susan Gray Page; his daughter-in-law, Michelle Mary Christian; his son-in-law, Ronald Allen Page, Jr., ;and his grandchildren, Edward McCoy Eakin, IV, Susannah Jane Christian Eakin, John Harrison Page, and Lucy Gray Page, all of Richmond, Virginia. Ed was deeply devoted to his family, in particular his grandchildren, and had a wonderful sense of humor. A graduate of Randolph-Macon College and the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond, Ed started his practice in Hopewell, Virginia and later was a founding partner of the firm of Palmer, Eakin & Lee, where he represented clients from all walks of life for over thirty years. He was also appointed as a substitute judge and served in that role for a decade. Active in the community, Ed served on various boards and community funds, including the Hopewell Prince George Red Cross, the Hopewell Heart Fund, and as a member of the vestry of St. John’s Episcopal Church. He was most proud, however, of his appointment and later election to the Prince George County School Board where he served as Chairman and a board member for over fifteen years. An avid golfer, tennis player and runner, Ed loved music, sports, and spending time at Jordan Joint and on Tar Bay along the James River. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM on Monday, October 10, 2016, at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 820 West Broadway, Hopewell, Virginia 23860.
