Edward Joseph Harvanek, 88, of Disputanta, VA, went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Helen Harvanek; his loving wife, Marie Harvanek; and his son, Donald Harvanek. He is survived by his son, Mark Harvanek (Brenda); daughter, Kimberly Puryear (Dwayne); girlfriend, Patricia Padgett; sisters, Margaret Belcher, Roselyn Henshaw (Linwood), Edith Daulton (Vernon), and Mildred Mulder (Huss); brother, Raymond Harvanek (Darlene); as well as numerous extended family and friends. Ed was born and raised in Sussex County, VA. He worked in maintenance for Firestone, Bridgestone CORP. and Allied Signal retiring after more than 40 years of service. He was a longtime member of Bethlehem Congregational Church and served as a Trustee for many years. Ed served on the Board of Directors for Farm Bureau; he was a member of the Hopewell Moose Lodge 1472; and he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles-Petersburg, VA; and the American Legion; as well as Early Times Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, farming, church activities, and restoring old tractors in his spare time. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at J.T. Morriss & Son - Petersburg Chapel, 103 S. Adams St. Petersburg, VA 23803. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 19, 2024, at the chapel. The interment will follow at Southlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in honor of Ed to Bethlehem Congregational Church 10501 Pole Run Road, Disputanta, VA 23842.
