Edward Ray Jackson, 72, of Petersburg, passed away on March 19, 2014. Born in Petersburg, VA he was the son of the late William Henry and Ethel Hux Jackson; and was also preceded in death by four brothers; and four sisters. Mr. Jackson retired as a manager from Brown and Williamson Tobacco after 29 years of service, and later in his life he worked for Houchins Pest Control for 16 years. He was a longtime member of Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet L. Jackson; two daughters, Jennifer J. Palmese (Paul) and Melissa J. Taylor (Brian); eight grandchildren, Jessica R. Utz (Ryan), Michael A. Palmese (Laura), Matthew E. Berry, Joseph D. Berry, Timothy R. Johnson, Ashley E. Johnson, Brian E. Johnson and Lillian E. Taylor; two great-grandsons, William J. Grubbs and Ryder S. Utz; three sisters-in-law, Grace, Gloria and Linda Jackson; brother-in-law, Jack Gadsby; brother and sister-in-law, James and Nancy Carter; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Monumental Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Ginn officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Lung Foundation.
