Edward Wessel, 94, of Prince George, VA, passed away surrounded by his family, on June 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Jane Wessel; his brothers, Earl Ray and Raymond; and his daughter-in-law, Sharon Lackie Wessel; and other family members.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Deanie Wessel; his sons, Mark E. (Barbara), of Raleigh, NC, and Michael D. (Phyllis), of Colonial Heights, VA; and a daughter, Marsha D. Pitts, of Chester, VA; two grandsons, Korey S. (Christina) and Kyler C. (Erin); a granddaughter, Cailin W. Martin (Joshua); six great-grandchildren, Austin and Aubrey Martin, and Natalie, Cecelia, Joseph, and Augustine Wessel.
Ed retired from the United States Army after 24 years of faithful service. He deployed to Korea during and after the war and served a tour in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star, and proudly wore the Combat Infantryman's Badge with star.
Upon his retirement from the US Army, he started another career with the Department of Justice at the Federal Correctional Institution in Prince George, VA, retiring after 20 years as the foreman of his shop.
Mr. Wessel will be laid to rest, with military honors, at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, Amelia Court House, VA, at 2:00 p.m., on Monday, June 24, 2024. The family is being served by the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
