Edwin Stansfield Hawkins Sr.

Edwin Stansfield Hawkins, Sr., 91, of Chester, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2014. He was the owner of the Hopewell Oil Company, Reynolds Oil Company in West Point and Elmore Oil Company in Petersburg. Mr. Hawkins a Veteran of World War II was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University. Mr. Hawkins was past President of the Jordan Point Country Club; he served on the Board of Directors for Cavalier Central Bank and Central Fidelity Bank. He was a Paul Harris Fellow with the Hopewell Rotary. Mr. Hawkins was a member of the Manchester Masonic Lodge #14; and a member of So-Ki, a social organization of kind individuals. Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Linwood and Marion Stansfield Hawkins; his wife, Virginia Mae Davis Hawkins; and brother, Melvin Clyde Hawkins. He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Hawkins Latimer and her husband Michael E. Latimer; sons, Barry Linwood Hawkins and his wife Donna S. Hawkins, Edwin Stansfield Hawkins Jr. and his wife Claudia F. Hawkins. Grandchildren, Mary-Catherine Hawkins Sheridan and her husband David Sheridan, Brandon Leigh Hawkins and his wife Megan Hawkins, Karaline Hawkins Bond and her husband Webb Bond, Christopher Edward Latimer, Jessica Marie Latimer, and Adam Lynn Boyer; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Jade Jones, Curtis Leon Sheridan, Carter Jacob Sheridan, Caitlyn Mae Sheridan, Olivia Cameron Bond, and Campbell Lee Bond; along with many loving family, friends, and dedicated caregivers. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George.
