Clay Maitland

Edwin Clayborne “Clay” Maitland, Jr., 70, of Dinwiddie, VA, died Thursday, December 7, 2017. Born in Petersburg, VA, he was the son of the late Edwin Clayborne and Mary Elizabeth Slate Maitland. A retired machinist for E.I. DuPont, Clay kept himself busy by looking for ways to help his neighbors or anyone in the community. He never met a stranger and rarely passed up an opportunity to talk for a while or tell a funny story. More than anything, he loved his grandchildren dearly. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan Ainsley Maitland; daughter, Kathryn Maitland Tanner; son, Edwin Clayborne Maitland, III and wife, Jennifer Franya Maitland; grandchildren, Kyle Slate Tanner, Claire Elizabeth Tanner, and Eli Benjamin Maitland; and a brother, Richard Meade Maitland and wife, Bonnie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lebanon United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O.
