Eldon D. Risher Jr.

November 11, 1930 — February 2, 2021

Eldon D. Risher, Jr. of Colonial Heights died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond. He was 90. He was a retired businessman who owned and operated silo companies in Augusta, Georgia, Monteagle, Tennessee and Petersburg, Virginia. He was president of Southeastern Silo Company in Augusta and served as president and board member of the National Silo Association. Mr. Risher traveled to the Soviet Union in 1974 as part of an American Grassland and Forage Council delegation to the 12th International Grasslands Congress. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of AMBUCS (American Business Clubs) and the Elks Club in Augusta. He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Augusta.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon D. Risher and Geraldine Porter Risher, and sisters, Anne Tisdale, Constance (Connie) Steed and Mary Schumpert.

Mr. Risher was born Nov. 11, 1930 in South Carolina. He grew up in the old Ellenton community of Aiken County and graduated from Ellenton High School in 1947. He was a 1951 graduate of Clemson College and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1955 from the University of Georgia.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Kim Risher, of Colonial Heights; a daughter, Carol Ridderhof, of Richmond, Va.; a stepdaughter, Stefanie Plummer, of Colonial Heights, VA; sons Don Risher (Annie), of Myrtle Beach, SC, Wayne Risher (Carol) of Memphis, TN; and Jim Risher (Melinda), of Baton Rouge, LA; nine grandchildren, Christopher Risher (Louise), Huntingdon, WV; Sean Risher, Myrtle Beach; Danielle Clements (Jeremy), Memphis; Corinne Ridderhof, Washington, DC; Nicolas Ridderhof, Richmond; Emily Risher, New Orleans; Claire Risher, College Station, TX; Alex Sondgeroth, Gilbert, AZ; and Helena Sondgeroth, Gilbert, AZ; and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Eldon and his family are being cared for by J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Chester Chapel. Condolences can be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
