Eleanor Norris Cox

June 18, 1931 — July 23, 2021

Eleanor Norris Cox, surrounded by loved ones, passed away peacefully in Chesterfield, Virginia on Friday, July 23, 2021. While our hearts are broken, we are blessed to have had our beloved “Mimi” with us for 90 years. She was a true southern lady with grace, elegance, and a delightful sense of humor. She loved going to the beach, gardening, bird watching, and everything Williamsburg. She graduated from Greenville High School in Greenville, NC in 1949 and attended East Carolina Teacher’s College. She was a former member the Chester Garden Club, Chester Village Woman’s Club, and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sumter Key Norris and Esther Blackman Norris of Greenville, NC. She is survived by her husband of 70 years James K. “Jimmy” Cox of Chester, VA; a brother, Thomas Key “Tommy” Norris (Frances) of Raleigh, NC; a son, James K. “Jim” Cox, Jr. (Jodi) of Chester, VA; 3 daughters: Nancy Cox Coffman (Bill) of Stockbridge, GA, Anne “Amy” Cox Petersen (Patrick) of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Evelyn “Lynne” Cox Thomas (Hunter) of Henrico, VA; 7 grandchildren: Matt Payne of Snellville, GA, Andy Cox (Rebecca) of Prince George, VA, Craig Cox (Chelsea) of Norfolk VA, Jake Thomas and Dillon Thomas of Henrico, VA, Catherine Petersen and Vance Petersen of San Juan Capistrano, CA; 4 great grandchildren: Chloe Cox, Landon Cox, and Brooke Cox of Prince George, VA and Scarlett Payne of Snellville, GA. A private Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held in early August. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com .
