Elena Daaco Brown, “Ellen”, 69, of South Chesterfield County, Va, entered God’s kingdom on the morning of April 21, 2017 while in the loving arms of her husband at her home. In the midst of her brave fight against cancer, she still thought more of other people and strove to live life to the end with a smile on her face. She was born on September 30, 1947 in Tacloban City, Philippines, the 8th child to the late Leopoldo Monteroso and Pelagia Opanda Daaco. She graduated from Leyte Institute of Technology with high honors, and received her Bachelor’s of Science in Commerce from Far Eastern University, Manila, Philippines. After working in Manila, Elena met and married her husband, MacArthur G. Brown. They have been married 38 years. Together they settled into the home they built themselves in South Chesterfield Co, Va. In Virginia, Elena worked as a Library Assistant for Chesterfield County Public Library System for nearly 20 years, where she served patrons with her warm, colorful demeanor and instilled a love of reading to her children. She also was a fabulous Avon Representative for 30+ years, where she showcased her love for fashion and cosmetology. Elena is known in her community for her strong faith and love for her parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was very active in many ministries over the years; enjoyed celebrating her Filipino culture as a member and past-officer of the Tri-Cities Filipino American Association. She was a very generous and loving friend to many, as well as wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother. There was no Filipino delicacy she wouldn’t cook for you or event that went unrecorded by her beautiful photos. She is preceded in death by her parents and several siblings: Galicana Daaco, Eldiefonso Daaco, Leopoldo Daaco, Jr., Rodolfo Daaco, Lydia Daaco, Erlinda Daaco, and Josefina Daaco. She is survived by her husband, “Mack”, her son, Mark Brown of Chester, Va.; her daughter, Rashelle (Chris) Hayes, of Henrico, Va; sisters, Cirila Daaco Negad (Renato) of Richmond, Va., Victoria Daaco of Tacloban City, Philippines; and brother, Rolando Daaco (Leonida) also of Tacloban City, Philippines. She enjoyed the love of her brothers and sisters in the Brown family, George and Frances Brown, Theo and Cornelia Stewart, Melvin and Elinor Harper, Joseph and Roberta Brown, and Frances Brown. “Lola” Brown is also survived by two grandchildren, Aaron and Tristan Hayes; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home.
