Elfriede A. Cales, 72, of Littleton, NC, passed suddenly from this life on April 22, 2012 after a very short illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved sons Floyd Lee Cales and Richard Philip Cales, as well as her parents. Elfriede leaves to mourn her loss her husband of 54 years, Ernest B. â??Buddyâ? Cales; son, Kenneth Cales; and best friend and daughter-in-law Crystal Cantrell; daughter-in-law, Jean Harris; granddaughters, Kelsey Smith; and Jackie and Stacey Cales; Buddyâ??s extended family and many friends in the Lake Gaston and Tri-Cities areas. Vivacious and loving, a virtuoso in the kitchen and a hostess without peer, Elfriede made her home a castle for all who entered, with warm hospitality and humor. She was a compassionate care-giver for her mother and subsequently her husband Buddy for many years. In her professional life, she touched many homes in the southern and south-central Virginia/North Carolina border area with her flawless taste as an interior decorator and designer. She and Buddy ran Church Road Upholstery and Waterfront Upholstery at Lake Gaston for many years following her career as a decorator for Sears. Elfriede will be laid to rest on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Southlawn Memorial Park in Prince George County, VA at 1:00 pm.
