Elizabeth "Betty" Mitchell Daffron, passed away on March 28, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on February 7, 1939, she lived a life marked by devotion to her family and service to others.
Betty was predeceased by her parents, Oather Oakey Mitchell II and Kathryn Cox Mitchell; her sister and brother, Kathryn "Kaki" Mitchell Vint and Oather Oakey Mitchell III; and her first son, John Francis Daffron III.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Wendy Daffron Henley, Sarah Daffron Koon (David), Kevin Matthew Daffron (Shelly), and Amanda Daffron Milam (Scott). "Bett/Gran" was a proud and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Hannah Koon, Jacob Koon, Eli Koon, Jack Daffron, Ayden Daffron, Beckett Milam, and Emmeline Milam. She also cherished the many grand dogs and cats who were part of the extended family.
Betty graduated from Thomas Dale High School then attended the Richmond Professional Institute ("RPI"), now Virginia Commonwealth University ("VCU"). She worked as a dental assistant before staying home to raise her four children. She tirelessly volunteered for her children's schools, led the Indian Guides and Junior Great Books, and drove endless carpools across the region. She often joked she spent twenty years in her station wagon. As the carpool years wound down, Betty and her dear friend Georgia launched a small gift basket business together.
After raising her children, Betty returned to work as the Volunteer Coordinator for the MCV Hospital Hospitality House (now The Doorways), where she found deep purpose in supporting families during times of medical crises. Her compassion and dedication left a lasting impact on her coworkers and on the families and patients she supported. She retired in May 2009.
Betty found joy in cooking, gardening, travel, and tennis, and was known for her great love of all animals. Many homeless or injured dogs, cats, bunnies, squirrels, birds and other small creatures found their ways to her house. Betty and her dear friend, Kay, enjoyed daily walks while they reflected on raising children and solving the world's problems. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend whose warmth touched many lives.
May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
