Elizabeth Davis Hartman

October 15, 1919 — August 30, 2015

Elizabeth Davis Hartman, 95, of Petersburg, VA, widow of Harry B. Hartman, Jr., passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015. Born in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late C. Ernest and Myrtie Rogers Davis. Mrs. Hartman was a 1938 graduate of Petersburg High School and a 1942 graduate of The College of William & Mary with a degree in Library Science. Her career as a librarian included Blackstone High School, Library of Congress, Petersburg Public Library, and she was the first librarian at Richard Bland College. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Petersburg. Mrs. Hartman is survived by her children, Richard D. “Dee” Hartman of Wilmington, NC, and Joanne H. Beck and husband, Richard of Dinwiddie; grandchildren, Tracy B. Clouser and husband, Mitch, Jessica B. Cooke and husband, Brad, Richard D. Hartman, Jr. and wife, Melissa, Alison H. Klopp and husband, Breon, Thomas W. Woodward, Jr., and Paul W. Woodward and wife, JoAnna, and 11 great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Blandford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Baptist Church, 3355 Johnson Road, Petersburg, VA 23805 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
