Elizabeth Louise Gwaltney Logan, 85, of Petersburg, widow of Raymond A. Logan, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at her residence. Born August 30, 1920 in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late, Charlie Cox and Emma Durphy Gwaltney. Mrs. Logan was the former co-owner of Logan?s Grocery in Petersburg which she and her husband operated. She was a life member of the state PTA, a charter member of the Fraternal or of Police Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Elm Street Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mrs. Logan is survived by her daughters, Barbara Logan Grizzard and husband, Chester of Colonial Heights and Lynda Logan Jones and husband, Willie of Petersburg; grandchildren, Chester Grizzard, Jr., Jeffrey Grizzard and wife, Terri, Michelle Retzloff Hamm and husband, Jeramy, and Charlotte Retzloff who was a devoted caregiver to her grandmother; great-grandchildren, Logan Brandt, Zoey Grizzard, Shania Jones, Joshua Grizzard and Emma Jones; sister, Lillian Stewart of Dendron; brother, William ?Bill? Gwaltney of Waverly; and devoted caregivers, Frenchie King, Deloris Harris, Duane Stell, Jr., and the staff of Hospice of Virginia, SRMC 3rd floor south, and Primecare Family Practice. She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, March 25, at Southlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating.
