Elizabeth Bush Payne

Elizabeth Bush Payne, 88, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, passed away on February 7, 2023. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, to the late John Bush and Millicent Andrews Bush, and raised in Chesterfield, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Virginia, Harriett, and Millicent; and five brothers, Bill, Fred, Winston, Pete, and Jack, Jr.; and her grandson, Ryan. Her first career as a mother was followed by a successful professional career as an Administrative Assistant. She spent most of that time in the banking industry and retired from Wachovia Bank in 1999.

She is survived by her children, James F. Payne, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, Gwendolyn G. Phelps, Dale Payne and his wife, Vickie, Dawn P. Garrett and her husband, Mark, and Shawna R. Pfeiffer and her husband, Matthew; grandchildren, Sarah, Jason, Kevin, Adam, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Mikayla, Chase, Krystalynn, Ellia, Logan, and Jake; and great-great-grandchild, Marshall Reese - as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

"Ms. Elizabeth", as she was affectionately known to many, was a great animal lover, rescuing and caring for numerous cats and dogs throughout the years. She was a woman of strong faith who loved to learn and was endlessly fascinated by the gifts of nature.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Friday, February 17, 2023, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 3050 W Hundred Road, Chester, VA 23831. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
