Elizabeth Morton Goode Vaden Reid “Betsy”, of Petersburg and Waverly, VA and Frisco, NC, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2017. Born on New Year’s Day 1942, she was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bolling Cameron, Jr. and Major Carter Spottswood Vaden who was killed heroically in the final months of World War II.
Betsy is survived by her husband, George Harrison Williams Jr.; her children, Dr. James Douglas Reid, III (Leah) of Belmont, NC, Elizabeth Reid Sword (Gary) of Williamsburg, VA, Carter Vaden Reid (Lee) of Richmond, VA, Carol Williams Butler of Richmond, VA and George Harrison Williams III (Heidi) of Midlothian, VA, and her siblings Gabriella Cameron Kuppich (Paul) of Westerville, OH and Robert Bolling Cameron, III of Springfield, VA. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Carol Anne, James, Becca, Casey, Mason, Vaden, Latané, John Henry, and Katherine and 1 great-grandchild, Chloe Grace. Betsy was a graduate of Petersburg Highschool and R.P.I. (modern day VCU). Her family and friends meant the world to her and she enjoyed entertaining in her home – especially her annual New Year’s Day / Birthday Open House where she would welcome all of her friends and family – often lasting into the wee hours of the night. She was descended from one of the first colonists of Virginia, Edward Burwell of Jamestown and she was granddaughter of Senator Morton Graham Goode of Dinwiddie County, VA and the great granddaughter of his father, Col. John Thomas Goode (CSA) who accompanied General Robert E. Lee into Appomattox, Virginia in 1865. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Christ and Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 South Sycamore Street, Petersburg, VA 23805. The family requests that In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14031, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 or Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
