Ellen Johnson Mayton, was a fine Southern Lady who loved the Lord, her family and hard work. She was born on June 3,1944, in Hopewell, Virginia, and was the second oldest of 8 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Mayton raised two children and was a significant part of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's lives. All were welcomed to come to her table for a delicious meal, especially Sunday night leftovers, as there were always extra people on hand, many of whom called her "Mom". She worked hard and created several successful businesses in Chesterfield County, Virginia. But above everything, she knew the Lord and was a faithful servant who loved going to church. Mrs. Mayton died peacefully, on April 28, 2024, in Virginia Beach, while her son was reading her favorite passage from, The Bible, Isaiah 1 :16-20.
Mrs. Mayton is preceded in death by her parents Dallas Earl Johnson, Sr. and Etta Hanchey Johnson. She is also proceeded in death by her siblings Ann Dillon, Sue Thomas and Betty Laxson. Mrs. Mayton is preceded in death by her stepdaughter Deborah Elaine Bowens. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, James W. Mayton of Chesterfield; son, Joseph Dallas Jenkins of Virginia Beach; daughter, Leigh Jenkins of Texas; stepson, Dwayne Mayton (Julie) of North Carolina. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, that she adored, Cody Kirkland, Courtney Sanchez and Caleb Volcsko; as well as her great-grandchildren, Brooks, Bayla, Blake and Chyles. Mrs. Mayton is survived by her siblings, Lloyd Johnson, Cynthia Kay Johnson, Dallas E Johnson Jr. (Janet) and Howard Johnson (Suzanne).
The family wishes to thank the entire staff of The Lipton House in Virginia Beach for their extraordinary care of Mrs. Mayton. In addition, the family is grateful for family friends Denise Rivette and Diane Grizzard for their care, support and generosity towards Mrs. Mayton. The family is very thankful for Mrs. Mayton's family and loved ones for their correspondences, gifts, visits and calls during her illness. Her children wish to recognize her niece, Elizabeth Dallas- Miller for the over 1000 letters that she and her daughters wrote daily and sent to Ellen.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home with a reception to follow.
